Day 2 of Preparing for Baby Emmy
Today, I worked on a taggy blanket for Emmy. I've made them before, but when I received an email from my favorite BlogSpot, Sew Can She, I knew that was the next thing I would make. It took me to another great website. Andsewwecraft.... Getting on with the taggy..... I cut approximately a 10x10 scrap of minky and cute elephant fabric my daughter gave me for Christmas. I went to Hobby Lobby, my go to store, and found a cute elephant ribbon; pink and gray BTW. I began by cutting the ribbon approximately 5" long. I used the elephant, a greek key design and added a pretty pink RickRack approx. 2.5" long. I laid the fabric pretty to pretty together. Remember that your ribbon will be tucked between the fabric when you place them where you want. There is really no set way of placing the ribbons. I started in the center of the fabrics and pinned the rickrack. Then I eyeballed where I wanted the other ribbons to be. Fold the ribbon in half and place it between the fabric, pin in place. I would say mine was approximately 2.5' to 3" apart. Once you have the ribbons pinned into place take your taggy to the machine and stitch all the way around, removing pins when necessary. When you get to the last side of the blanket, leave enough room to pull the taggys through. Once I did this, I went over it with a chopstick to make sure my corners are out. Last, I topstitched all the way around to close it up. And that is all there is to it. This is really an great project for beginners to advanced. I hope you give it a try for your next baby shower or little one in your life. You can add things like wrinkle plastic, squeeky toys etc, into the taggy to make it more interesting if you would like.
